Lab in a Bag – hydraulics teaching laboratory in a box
The Association for International Knowledge Exchange (Verein zur Förderung des internationalen Wissensaustauschs e.V.) and Arusha Technical College, Tanzania, have initially signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2016 to develop a transportable hydro-laboratory at lowest costs to foster perception-based teaching in the field of hydraulics as well as sanitary environmental and hydraulic engineering. Yet in 2021 the joint proposal “Lab in a Bag” has been approved by the German Academic Exchange Service. Since then, researchers and students from the different institutions work on various depictive experiments to showcase complex flow phenomena and sanitary issues in order to qualify engineers to cope with the current and future water-based challenges. The experiments are accompanied by a tailored teaching book and open source codes available on github.
